In previous years the Club has not been active between the AGM in May and our next meeting in August.
June and July are too bright at night for stargazing and so we have "taken the summer off" each year.
2022 was different.
We had our 2nd market stall, the Jubilee celebrations at the village hall, and the exhibition at Beverley Treasure House to keep us busy.
For 2023 we decided to be a bit more ambitious and we have four activities planned.
Solar Observing session: 10th June
This session was only for Club members who are comfortable observing the sun.
Great care and the right kind of equipment are essential for safe viewing and on the day the small group of members were treated to a fine display of sunspots and prominences using the Club's dedicated solar telescope and an adapted solar projection telescope, as well as several telescopes belonging to Club members.
Lunar Observing Session: 29th June (to be repeated in September)
Although the skies did not get dark until almost midnight, the 11 day old moon was more than bright enough to observe from around 9pm. The small group of Club members who assembled were challenged to identify a number of lunar features and everyone was able to view the stunning moon through the Club's 20 telescope
as well as the other telescoped available. Half way through the night we had a short break, a hot drink and a bit of a chat.
Beverley Market: 29th July
We will be at the market all day so please come along for a chat. If you are thinking of buying a telescope than please come and get some advice first.
If you have a telescope and need some advice then we're happy to help, although the Market is not a suitable place for setting up your scope - but come and speak to us anyway.
Meteor Party: 10th 11th or 12th August*
Depending on the weather we will be meeting up at Woodmansey Village Hall from around 7:30pm for an evening of meteor spotting.
If you are interested in joining us then please email the Club secretary for more up to date information as this activity is very weather dependent.
