Solar Eclipse Event August 12th 2026

A free public event attended by 40 persons of which 8 were Club members

A highly successful public event during which the weather cooperated.

Not as big as some othert local events but just the right mix of stargazers, members of the public and observing equipment.

MarkG and Chris brought telescopes fitted with solar filters. MarkG also brought a small solarscope which was complemented by the Club’s PST solarscope and our much older solar projection scope.

Lee, PhilD and MarkT were active in helping visitors and members with equipment and handing out solar eclipse glasses.

Lee also set up a makeshift Camera Obscura to observe the eclipse.

All in all a very successful event.

Visitors and club members network.
We’re getting closer to “totality”.
Lee’s camera obscurer was a hit
Solar projection was a popular alternative
Near totality met our expectations

The crowd dispersed shortly after 8pm having by all accounts had a great couple of hours at Woodmansey Village Hall.
