Exhibitions
During the last few years ERA have been fortunate to co-host an exhibition at Beverley’s Treasure House and Library, and to assist the Guildhall in Beverley with their exhibition on the history of astronomy.
Treasure House Exhibition.
This was our first experience of putting on a large public exhibition. Initially the exhibition was to last just three months, but in the end we had almost a year in which to bring star gazing and our Club to the attention of residents and visitors to Beverley.
We are indebted to the staff of the Treasure House and Library for this opportunity.
The exhibition was in two parts. A simple display board arrangement on the ground floor corridor near the main entrance was a typical graphics display.
The main ERA part of the exhibition consisted of 7display boards covering our history, how to get started, astrophotography etc.

We have kept all of the boards from this exhibition (Thanks Treasure House staff) and frequently use them at events and for public education and engagement.
A more innovative exhibit was our “if the sun was the size of a pea” concept that spiralled all the way to the top of the Treasure House Tower, demonstrating the relative distances of the planets on a scale where the sun is the size of a small garden pea.
As you walked up the stairs you could imagine yourself in a spaceship spiralling out from the sun towards the cold dark edge of the solar system.

Fun fact: On the pea scale Neptune is around 3,170 peas away.
The Andromeda Galaxy, which can be seen from Beverley Westwood on a good dark night, is all the peas grown in the whole world for the last 100 years!
