Summer of Astronomy

This summer (June and July 2025) we hope to organise a number of activities for Club members and guests.

Our next Beverley market stall will be  Saturday 26th July from 9a.m. until 4p.m.

In addition to the market stall we plan to organise a solar observing session and workshop as well as one or more lunar observing sessions.  Both will be at Woodmansey Village Hall.  See below for dates.

At one of 2024s lunar observing sessions

These activities are weather dependent and can be cancelled at short notice.  For up to date information keep checking this webpage.

Dates for Solar observing:

If the sun is out then you can have a brief look at the sun at our market stall using a specialist solar observing telescope on the 26th July.

Date for solar observing session and workshop:

If clear, possibly Monday 2nd June around midday, TBC. Check with the Club Secretary first. Weather not promising, keep checking for a future date.

Equipment: Unless you have a telescope with a fitted solar filter or a dedicated solarscope then do not bring any optical equipment.  The Club has several sun capable telescopes that you will be able to look through.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES look at the sun unless you know what you are doing and have the right equipment.

Dates for Lunar observing:

Lunar observing sessions always seem to be relaxed events, the twilight makes it easier to set up, it’s not too cold although a warm brew is always welcome.

Date for session:

A small Lunar observing session went ahead on Sunday the 1st June.  Click here for a report.

If the weather is kind and there’s enough demand we may repeat the session on the 3rd or 4th June.  Check with WhatsApp or our Club Secretary first.

If cloudy then we’ll observe on the 3rd or 4th.

Equipment:  bring along a telescope if you have one.  It will get cooler as the evening progresses so bring warm clothing.
