Beverley Market Stalls

Once a year we rent a stall in Beverley Market as an opportunity to meet members of the public and talk about stargazing and astronomy.  Often we meet fellow enthusiasts and occasionally even professional astronomers.

Our Beverley market stall in 2026 was on the 25th July. And thanks to the support of the Market Manager we not only had a market stall, but access to the Market Cross.  This proved a game changer and really helped us to engage with the public.

July 25th 2026 Market Stall Report: Setting up for the Market started just after 7:45 a.m. so inspite of the gusting wind we were almost ready when the market  opened at 9 a.m.

The Market Manager allowed us access to the Market Cross to display our telescopes and the larger information boards.  As this was unexpected our arrangements for the boards was a bit “Heath Robinson”, but they worked.

We had three solar telescopes available and the frequent breaks in the cloud allowed many members of the public to safely view the sun for their first times.

We were well supported by Club members, which was fortunate as we had more visitor engagement this year than ever before.  Thanks to MarkT and MarkG, Lorraine and Chris, Helen and Lesley, Sean and Phil, and Lee and anyone we’ve missed out.

Estimates range from more than 50 to almost 100 visitors during the day.

The weather was mixed, frequent clear spells were appreciated, but the strong gusty wind did need significant efforts to tame and even members of the public joined in retrieving windblown items from time to time.

Plans are already underway for our next market stall, and if the Market Cross is available then we’ll put on an even better show next time.

Here are some of the photo highlights for 2026.
