Club Monthly Meeting – January 5th 2026
Our first meeting of 2026 was well attended given the snowfall earlier that day, and for once we had a clear sky.
Although temperatures were below zero, the lack of any significant wind meant we didn’t feel that cold.
One of our newest members brought along their new 8″ Dobsonian telescope which they used to good effect.
The Club’s TS20 was also in action alongside Lee’s newly built 14″ Dobsonian, and Mark G’s big aperture SCT.
The gibbous moon fought with a clear sky to drown out fainter objects but Jupiter, Saturn, and even Neptune were seen. Jupiter in particular presented a wonderful view in all scopes as it was so high in the night sky.
Clarity started to wane around 9pm and we were all on our way home by 10.
All in all a good meeting, let’s hope it sets the trend for the forthcoming year.
Several Club telescopes are available to borrow from one meeting to the next. These range from our 60mm Coronado solar scope to our 250mm Dobsonian Mounted Newtonian Telescope.
There is a lending fee of £5 per telescope pre period. Telescopes are only available for loan to full Club members.
To arrange to borrow a telescope simply contact a committee member.
